On September 25, 2018, Facebook discovered a mass security breach that had resulted in 50 million hacked accounts and an additional 40 million accounts that had been put at risk of being hacked. Although they were uncertain as to when the attack began, they did know that it came sometime after the release of the new “View As” feature that had been introduced in 2017. Ironically, this feature had been released in an attempt to give users even more control over their privacy by allowing them to see what information visitors have access to when they look at their profile. But the feature introduced vulnerabilities to the platform that had allowed hackers to steal access tokens, thus enabling them to obtain personal data such as name, gender, and hometown. Additionally, these access tokens could have also been used to access third-party applications that had been connected to their accounts.
This security breach was the largest in the company’s history, resultantly placing Facebook under intense scrutiny from government authorities and general users alike. The risk of hacked and compromised accounts is very real and ongoing, as Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg put it on a conference call with reporters following the discovery of the breach, “I think this underscores the attacks that our community and our services face.” In 2015, the New York Post reported that 160,000 accounts are hacked every single day, making for 58 million hacked accounts each year. That’s over 110 accounts that are being hacked every minute, around the clock, 365 days of the year.
If you’re a Facebook user, you’re probably asking yourself, “Am I safe? What can I do if my account is compromised?” With an overwhelming 1.66 billion active users daily, one would assume that Facebook has taken measures to not only protect their online community from attack but to also provide top-notch support should a breach of security ever happen. Unfortunately, this just isn’t entirely true.
The Facebook Support Dilemma
Since the 2018 breach, Facebook has resolved the vulnerabilities that opened the doors for the massive data hack. But they’ve failed to address the growing demand for quality customer service support for a number of account issues, with everyday hacked accounts being just one of many common problems. As of March 2020, Facebook’s Help Center is receiving 4 million monthly visitors. These 4 million users are actively seeking support for their Facebook account and have until now been left with no option outside of Facebook’s self-serve library of Help Center articles.
Frustratingly, this article library is convoluted and difficult to navigate. If a user isn’t entirely sure what help they need, there’s a good chance they’ll leave the Help Center without being any closer to finding a resolution.
The lack of customer support is a major problem. Luckily, fig social has the solution.

Included with a fig support membership, SocialGuard will serve as a backup for Facebook account data like photos and videos. If your account is maliciously hacked, you may lose access to your profile permanently, losing precious photos and memories. With SocialGuard, you can rest easy knowing that your assets are safely stored away on a separate platform that you have complete control over.
Additionally, fig social has plans to extend its mobile application to iOS mobile operating systems.
