How Fig handles your data.

This is the plain-English version of how Fig Social Inc. ("Fig", "we") collects, uses and protects information when you use the Fig app and fig.social. Plain English doesn’t make it less binding.

The short version
  • We collect what the app needs to work: your account, your location while you use it, what you tap and search, and what you post.
  • We never sell your data, and your data is never used to train AI models.
  • Friend location sharing is opt-in, mutual-only, and we don’t keep a trail: only your latest spot, only while you’re sharing, deleted when you stop.
  • Delete your account and we delete your data within 90 days, keeping only what the law requires.
01

Who we are

Fig Social Inc. is based in San Diego, California. We make the Fig app and website. For anything about this policy, write to privacy@fig.social.

You must be 18 or older to have a Fig account. If we learn that someone under 18 has an account, we delete it.

02

What we collect

Account basics. Your name, email, a profile photo if you add one, and a sign-in token if you sign in with another account.

Location. Your precise location while the app is open, so we can show what’s near you and power Live mode. Your phone asks your permission first and you can withdraw it in your phone’s settings any time.

Friend location sharing (opt-in). If you turn it on, your position is shown to the mutual friends you choose, for the window you choose (an hour, until tomorrow morning, or until you turn it off), either live (it follows you, including while the app is closed, if you allow it) or as one pinned spot that doesn’t move. You can add a short status and an emoji, which only those friends see. We keep only your latest spot, overwritten with each update and deleted as soon as sharing ends. We do not store a history of where you’ve been.

Contacts (optional). If you choose to invite friends from your contacts, we read names and phone numbers or emails on your device to show you who to invite and to send the invite. We don’t upload your whole address book.

Photos. Flyers you photograph so Fig can read them, and moments (photos and short videos) you post at a happening.

Taste signals. What you like, open, say Yes or Maybe to, send to friends, and mark as "More like this" / "Less like this". These reorder your feed. You can see every one of them on the Your taste screen, remove any, pause learning, or start over.

Chat. Messages in plan chats, group chats and direct messages, including when you mention @fig.

Device and usage. Device model, operating system version, app version, crash reports, and basic analytics about which screens and features are used. A push notification token, so the app can notify you once notifications ship.

Payments. If you pay for a feature, a payment provider processes the payment. We receive a receipt and subscription status, never your card number.

03

How we use it

  • Show you happenings near you and personalize your feed.
  • Run Live mode and friend location sharing.
  • Send invites you ask us to send, and emails you ask for (account notices).
  • Read flyers you snap and add the happening for everyone.
  • Let @fig help in a plan chat: build a bringing list, run a poll, remember who volunteered for what.
  • Keep Fig safe: moderation, blocking, "Something’s off" corrections, fraud and abuse prevention.
  • Fix bugs and understand which features matter, using aggregate analytics.
  • Bill and manage paid features.
04

How AI is used, and what it never does

Fig uses AI to understand each happening: vibe, who it’s for, setting, price. That’s information about happenings, not about you.

AI also reads your searches to understand what you mean ("date night but not a bar"), and reads a plan chat only when @fig is mentioned — and only that thread, to do what you asked.

Your data is never used to train AI models — not ours, not our providers’. Our AI providers process requests under contracts that forbid training on or retaining your content.

05

Who we share it with

Other people on Fig, as you choose: your profile with people you approve (accounts are private by default); your RSVP and chat messages with others in that plan; your live location with the friends you pick; your moments, which are public by default (see Moments below).

Service providers that run Fig for us: app stores, sign-in and payment providers, cloud hosting, an email provider for invites and notices, a maps provider for map tiles and geocoding, and AI providers that process searches and @fig requests. Each is bound to use your data only to provide the service to us.

Venues and organizers never receive your personal data from us. They see aggregate counts (for example "31 going").

Legal. We disclose data if the law requires it, or to protect someone’s safety.

We never sell your personal data and we don’t share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. Fig has no third-party ads.

06

Moments and public photos

Photos and videos you post at a happening are public by default and show your first name and photo. You can switch any moment to attendees-only when you post it or later.

Moments at happenings labeled kids or family default to attendees-only.

If you appear in someone else’s moment, you can request removal from the moment itself. We review these quickly and side with the person in the photo.

Public moments never reveal your location trail — only the happening they were posted at.

07

Your choices and rights

  • See and edit your taste. The Your taste screen shows every signal; remove any, pause, or start over.
  • Location. Turn location access off in your phone’s settings; turn friend sharing off with one tap in the app.
  • Marketing use of your content. In Settings → Privacy, turn off "Let Fig feature my moments" and we won’t use your content in marketing.
  • Export. Ask for a copy of your data at privacy@fig.social; we’ll send it within 30 days.
  • Delete. Delete your account in Settings → Account, or email us. See Retention below.
  • California residents have rights under the CCPA/CPRA to know, delete, correct, and opt out of sale or sharing (we do neither). We don’t discriminate for exercising them. Authorized agents may act for you with proof.
08

Retention and deletion

When you delete your account, we delete your personal data within 90 days. Backups roll off on the same schedule.

We keep only what the law requires or what safety needs: payment records for tax and accounting, and safety or abuse reports involving your account, kept for the period required and then deleted.

Your shared location is never kept as a history: only your latest spot while you’re sharing, deleted when sharing ends. Taste signals older than about a month stop influencing your feed and are then deleted.

Happenings you added by snapping a flyer stay in Fig (they’re public information), without your name attached.

09

Security

Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Access inside Fig is limited to people who need it to do their job, and logged. No system is perfect; if a breach affects you, we’ll tell you as the law requires.

10

Children

Fig is for adults 18 and over. We don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. Happenings labeled for kids and families are listings for grown-ups to take their kids to.

11

Changes

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we’ll tell you in the app and by email before it takes effect. The date at the top always shows the current version.
