Sharing your location
Tell friends you're at a happening, or share where you are for a while, and turn it off.
There are two ways to let friends know where you are. Both are off until you turn them on, and only friends (people who follow each other) can ever see them. People you've blocked, or who blocked you, never do.
"I'm here"
Use it when you're at a happening and want friends to come through. It shares which happening you're at, not your exact spot.
- Open a happening that's on now (or starts within the hour).
- Tap I'm here.
Friends see your face on the map above the happening, "Maya is here" on its card and page. It ends by itself when the happening ends, or after 4 hours at most. Checking in somewhere else ends the last one. Tap Stop to end it sooner.
Sharing where you are
This is for meeting up anywhere. It's in the iPhone and Android apps.
- Tap the location button at the top of Home.
-
Choose Share live location (your spot moves with you) or Share this spot (one pin that stays put).

-
Add a short status and an emoji if you like ("Grabbing food" 🍕).
- Pick All my friends or Only friends I pick.
- Pick how long: 1 hour, Until tomorrow morning or Until I turn it off.
- Tap Start sharing or Pin this spot.
Friends you picked see your photo on their map, and in the row of friends at the top of Home, with your status and neighborhood. If you stop being friends, or either of you blocks the other, they stop seeing you right away.
Live sharing can keep going while Fig is closed. On iPhone, that needs location set to Always for Fig; the app explains how before your phone asks.
Turning it off
- While you're sharing, the location button turns into a green pill. Tap it, then Stop sharing.
- From that same pill you can change your status or who can see you without stopping.
- Sharing also stops when the time you picked runs out, or when you sign out.
What's kept
Fig keeps only your latest spot while you're sharing, and deletes it as soon as sharing ends. There's never a history of where you've been. More in our Privacy Policy.
