Following people
Follow friends and places, handle follow requests on a private account, and see what a profile shows.
Following on Fig is one-way: you can follow someone without them following you back.
Following someone
- Find them with Search (type at least 2 letters of their name or @handle), or tap their name anywhere in Fig.
- Open their profile and tap Follow.
If their account is public, you're following them straight away. If it's private, they get a request, and the button says Requested until they answer.
You can follow businesses and venues too, so their happenings reach the top of your feed.
Friends
When you follow each other, you're friends. Friends can see each other's friends-only plans, and only friends can see you with "I'm here" or on the map (see Sharing your location).
The follow button always shows where you stand: Follow, Follow back, Requested, Following or Friends.
Follow requests
New accounts for people start out private, so you choose who follows you. When someone asks, you can:
- Approve & follow back, so you're friends,
- Approve, so they follow you but you don't follow them, or
- Decline.
If someone already follows you, following them back is instant, even on a private account.
Switching your account from private to public (in Edit profile) approves everyone who's waiting. Business accounts are always public.
What a profile shows
A profile has its name, photo, bio, counts (followers, following, friends and more) and these tabs:
- Happenings: what they're hosting and what they're attending (marked Going, then Went).
- Boards: their public boards of saved happenings.
- Liked: happenings they gave a 👍.
- Photos: photos and videos they posted at happenings.
A private profile shows only "This account is private" to people who don't follow them.
Every profile also has a web address, www.fig.social/@handle. A public profile opens for anyone; a private one asks visitors to sign in.
From someone's profile you can also Message them, or open the … menu to Report or Block them (see Privacy and safety).
